Breakfast

I was invited to breakfast with Donald and his girlfriend, Mariella. I had never met her, so I was curious to see who she was and feel her energy. But first, we headed up a small mountain in the early morning—then a shower, then lunch.

First: a Hike and Shower

Every Sunday we climb that mountain. Donald keeps a pretty fast pace, and since I’m very fit, I can keep up with him (happily for my ego). But at the top, we were both breathing heavily for a few moments. Halfway down, I started running for the better part of the trail. I just like that. Sweating and thirsty, we eventually hit a small beach, just watching and enjoying the sun, the water, and the morning quiet. It was only around 7:00 AM.

Home, shower, and off to breakfast. Now, I almost never have breakfast and lunch. I don’t eat much during the day; usually, I prefer juice or some fruit in the evening, and that’s it. Sometimes I don’t eat at all for a few days. My energy stays high, I don’t get tired, and my weight stays steady—my BMI is a constant 22/23.

But I decided to make an exception. Social events, special meetings, “encounters of the heart”—these are the moments for exceptions. Because I was meeting Mariella for the first time, I wanted to fully enjoy it as much as possible. I knew it would cost me later in the day. I knew that very well.

The lunch was lovely and well-prepared. I could tell she had put thought into the things I like, such as the salmon. I knew Donald wouldn’t touch it, and while I wasn’t sure about her, she didn’t take any—so I ate it all! Those little details told me she had really given it her attention. She is a vivid person: sensitive, intelligent, and with a great sense of humor. I truly enjoyed the company of both of them, and the conversation was a perfect mix of seriousness and jokes.

Otrabanda

Afterward, Donald and I went for a walk in Otrabanda to see the old buildings. Some were fantastic and beautifully maintained; others had fallen into ruin. It’s a pity to see such cultural heritage lost. After the walk, we headed home.

The Dip

This is the real reason I’m telling this story. I knew my energetic system would take a dip from the breakfast. This isn’t a “self-fulfilling prophecy.” I simply know my system. It’s a myth that if you “think” positively enough, your biology won’t react. This body is a biological system—don’t try to spiritually bypass that (end of rant).

So, I felt it: tired, a heavy feeling inside, my heart beating harder than normal, energy down. This was exactly what I knew could happen. I always hope it won’t, but reality is strong.

But…

Did I love the lunch? Yes!

Did I have fun? Yes!

Was my heart happy? Yes!

Did I love the company? Yes!

Did I know the consequences? Yes!

Was it worth it? Yes!

Would I do it again? YES!

The only side note is that I can’t make a habit of it. I have to respect my own biological system.

Thanks for the lunch, thanks for the joy!
